"There is a lot going on with you."

"Rise up nimbly & go on your strange journey" -Rumi This phrase was on my healer's card. I think it speaks volumes.

One day while working at the jewelry store I spotted a man standing at the Rolex counter. He was dressed very casually and he had long black hair that was braided neatly all the way down his back. I instantly felt like today had just become a little bit more interesting. After a few timepiece questions and answers I noticed a pendant that he was wearing. It was a simple chain with a white crystal, but the top part of the crystal looked as though it had been transformed in to a metal. Such an interesting piece demanded my attention. I made a comment on the piece and that spiraled the nature of our conversation from watches to something much more fascinating.

As it turns out he is a healer and Master of Science Oriental Medicine (MSOM). After a brief conversation about what all that means he offered to do a reading for me. Feeling a bit exposed, since I was at work, I was a bit hesitant. However, he was insistent, and how many times do you have a chance meeting with a healer who wants to give you a free impromptu reading?

“What do I do?” I asked nervously.

“Nothing, just hold still.” He said as he touched my forehead with his middle and index fingers for a second. Then he stared off for a good long moment. I watched him closely. His eyes glazed a bit and his mouth was twitching. His hands were incredibly active almost like he was typing in Morse Code on the counter top.

“Okay,” he said suddenly snapping back into this realm. “There is a lot going on with you.” I was very curious to see if he would pick up on my past with cancer. He put his hand up to face, more specifically my nose and forehead, and said, “I see problems here.” He officially had my attention now since that is exactly where I had cancer. “I also see problems with your thyroid,” his hand moves down to my throat, “and your adrenals.” So far I did not have problems with those areas so I just listened and decided to take his message with a little grain of salt.

We talked a little longer, and before leaving he left me his card, a holistic prescription, and an invitation to tea if I ever found myself in Glenwood Springs.

The prescription was extract of Aspen, sublingual Gaba, and adrenal supplements. Even though I wasn't sure if I believed everything he said, I did venture to the health food store to fill my very odd little prescription. After all there were some things that were accurate. He did hone in on my cancer area, and he did have a very accurate reading of my personality.

He said I was like an Aspen tree, long and lean and often faced with forceful mountain winds. He said that the mountain winds may force me down but I spring back up with out damage. However, the tiniest breeze may also come along and my leaves start shaking.

If anyone knows me well enough they understand the metaphor. Big winds, like cancer, come along and I am fairly collected and positive. Little breezes, like a bad day at work, and watch out! I get very worked up over it. It's silly, I know.

Several months later, maybe even a year or more, during an annual physical it was discovered that I have Grave's Disease, which is an issue with the thyroid. I couldn't help but think back to my chance encounter with the healer. “I see problems [with the sinuses and brain], the thyroid and the adrenals.” Needless to say along with my daily dose of doctor prescribed methimazole I decided to bump up my dosage of adrenal supplements as well.

I am not the kind of person who believes in living my life through fear, and I don't believe that just because my healer said I may have problems with my adrenals I will suffer kidney failure. However, so far he has hit two out of three so what's the harm in taking some vitamins.... Just in case.
